INTRO
The partners of the project “Smart technologies by design” reached the final stage of the project with a series of multiplier events in the partner countries – Bulgaria, Romania, Spain, The Netherlands. The main objective of all events was to disseminate and demonstrate the achievements of the project, the produced materials, results and outcomes.
We aimed to broaden the scope and drive social dialogue on the main topics of Design thinking and smart city development. The efforts and work of the six partners in the past two years led to raised awareness about the opportunities, challenges, best practices and needs for training in this field in the endeavor of all of us and our societies, public authorities, business, research and science and academia to transform the cities where we live. We achieved our goals by the successful development of two products: Map of digital and smart disruptions and Training program for smart disruptive innovation.
The first event was organized by University of Library Studies and IT on 14th May 2021. It was targeted at experts, public authorities, academic organisations in smart technologies with focus on cybersecurity, IoT, Big Data, VR, AR, etc.
The second event was organized by ARIES T in Cluj-Napoca on 21st May 2021. It targeted mainly representatives of local authorities and local policy makers.

The second event was organized by ARIES T in Cluj-Napoca on 21st May 2021. It targeted mainly representatives of local authorities and local policy makers.
ARIES T followed up with another event on 18th June 2021 and targeted mainly representatives of other clusters from the North Western Region in Romania and training providers. It was the largest one with more than 60 attendees including participants from other countries.
The third event was scheduled on 12th July 2021 having as main target a group of ARIES T member company representatives and also representatives of the 2 biggest universities in Cluj-Napoca – Babes-Bolyai University and the Technical University from Cluj-Napoca.
All three events reached 98 participants – 90 from Romania and 8 – foreign.

The other partners: KISMC, UAF, DEUSTO, and GAIA organized their events in September 2021.
United Academics organized their event on 16th September with a physical seminar and online streaming for more than 50 participants from business, academic, public sectors. The event successfully took place on September 16th, 2021, from 14:00 to 17:00 at the Troppen Hotel and Tropen Cafe (part of the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam). The Chief Technology Officer at the Municipality of Amsterdam, Ger Baron gave a keynote presentation.
United Academics organized their event on 16th September with a physical seminar and online streaming for more than 50 participants from business, academic, public sectors. GAIA organized a seminar on 23rd September with representatives by smart technology businesses, digital businesses, start-ups, entrepreneurs, public authorities and reached more than 40 people. The event included a tour around the premises of GAIA to show participants the IoT laboratory with showcasing 26 best practices of disruptive technologies that are being used both in the field of cities and in the field of industry.
All participants had a chance to learn more about the application of advanced technologies, to share experience, knowledge, best practices, opportunities for collaboration.
It brought together relevant stakeholders and target groups to help us spread the impact of the smart city innovations driven by business.
KISMC held a webinar with more than 40 participants of the main target groups and stakeholders.
This has broadened the scope with the participation of the Innovative Sofia, which is the Digitalization, Innovation, and Economic Development Department who presented their Sandbox for Innovative solutions as one of the best practices in the field.

DEUSTO organized a seminar for the education and training representatives with young entrepreneurs, public authorities, too. The event took place on 28th September. Just like the other partners’ events this one also included a session of demonstration of the training modules and materials, discussions and common dialogue on the main topics and their application for Smart cities development and successful innovations in the area.
Final Transnational Project Meeting
On 1st and 2nd of September 2021 all partner met in Bilbao, Spain at the final meeting of the project hosted by University of Deusto. After all restrictions and limitations of travels during the last year and a half of the project the event was looked forward and all participants were eager to meet in person.
This meeting marked the final stage of finalization of the project, future plans for exploitation, use of final results, achieved impact and further application of all results, outcomes, tools, materials on the new model developed during the past two years of SMART TECHNOLOGIES BY DESIGN.

Thus, we are happy to announce the successful execution and development of a project that led to the production of a new model for training of the next generation of innovators in the Smart city sector driving the transformation of the cities where we live with high impact on society, residents, science, business.
ABOUT "Smart by Design"
The aim of the project is to develop the competences of SME managers and owners to drive smart disruptive technology business. The duration of the project is two years, starting in October 2019. The project will provide a map of digital disruptive technologies and a training programme for smart disruptive innovation. The project embraces 3 very important elements: Design thinking, Technology, Smart innovation.
